Our Lady of Las Palomas
Interfaith Retreat Center
Our Mission
Our Lady
of Las Palomas is a multi-faith multi-cultural
community of contemplation, prayer and action
committed to the life of simplicity, presence, and
service in right relationship with God.
We are a beyond borders
interfaith community with people of the United
States and Mexico participating in a cooperative
community of justice and sustainability.
We are the parent
organization of the Palomas Family Cooperative,
whose mission it is to empower women and their
families to work together, developing skills and
using new resources, to improve their lives.
PURPOSE: It is our belief that contemplation, prayer and action and right relationship with God call us to a life of justice making and sustainability. Our faith imperative requires bearing witness and direct action. Our hope is that the youth and adult retreats at Our Lady of Las Palomas will mentor others in the spirituality of compassion. Our overall purpose is to develop a compassionate community supported by a strong, viable organizational structure, and beautiful, sustainable gathering places on either side of the border where participants may gather in community and safety with their children and families and where they may receive education, empowerment, mentoring, and financial resources to reawaken and focus their creativity and artistic talents so they may achieve economic stability, and security for themselves and their families. Justice making and sustainability, then for us, translates into providing education and economic opportunity and sustainability technologies for those who live below the poverty level which can lead to healthy families and healthy communities, peace and justice. We hope to build economic bridges between stakeholders so that our neighborhoods and communities may be safer, stronger, healthier, and more livable.
